Behind You...
Ok, I had waited a while for iPods.... and i have decided I want to get one.
The price holds me back, but a free engraving pulls me back.
Im in college and the educational discount is $269.
Would it be worth it to buy one now? Is it worth it at all?
Help please...

Hey actingbiz,

You ask a pretty impossible question. Worth it based on what? If you're planning on using the color screen for photos and video features, then it's a great choice. If you only have a few hundred songs you can save a lot of money and get a Nano or Shuffle.

Personally I like the extra space in my 20 Gig, because I use it to back up my documents folder and take with me to work.

If you're worried you'll regret it if they come out with newer ones shortly, you can always wait. But that's a "what-if" game that never ends...

My advice is if you have the money, and you need that much memory - go for it!

EDIT: If you don't, and/or don't need the video - you can get same model I have (B/W screen) for $189 at the apple refurb store

I'm not sure what the problem here is? If you can afford it go for it, if not consider another model. I'm really unsure of the help your looking for.

Are you hoping for a circle of people cheering you on going "iPods are great!" because we all know they are.

So are iPods worth it? Well my last one died on a monday and on friday I went and bought a new one.

Love the 'tar

If you really want an iPod then do something if it's wrong... you are in college, now, more than ever is the time to make "mistakes" (and by no means am I saying an iPod purchase a mistake)

I say buy the iPod... the engraving will give it character and if you don't dish out the extra 10-20(?) on the engraving you will most likely regret it everytime you look at the back of your iPod.

Moral of the story... go all out my friend, do something even if it's wrong.

Thanks guys. I wasnt sure if there was some talk of a newer model coming out soon....

If you can wait, wait until April 1st for Apple's 30th Anniversary Event... there have been numerous rumors of a true widescreen video iPod being released there.

I will sell you mine, as long as you're willing to include the price of a case and iTrip in the cost. I'm thinking 240 for it all, the iPod was put into a protective leather case immediately after purchase and has not been taken out since. It's the 30gb video...I don't have the original headphones though.

I bought it all in December of 2005, I've listened to several 100 hrs. of music on it and played two videos on it to check for display problems, I saw none.

I have a feeling it'll be disappointing like the last updates...
