iPod help for my Ipod nano!!

If anyone has had this problem, I would be ever so grateful if you could tell me how you resolved it

I have an Ipod Nano (4G) and basically, when i go to choose a song to listen too it wont play it, and just returns to the song/album list, so i cant play any music.
