HELP : Freeze problem

Hi Everyone,

This is my first topic, I really need some help.
I am working as an editor usually on Avid Media composer or FCP
I've got a Mac Pro Mid2010.

I recently updated completely my work station.

- I installed OSX 10.8.5.
- I setted up a new graphic card on a 16X slot

- I setted up an Allegro 4XUSB 3 card on a 16X slot
- I setted up an Black Magic DLink Mini monitor on a 4X slot.

Everything looks like it works pretty good but after maybe 45minutes I've got a complete freeze of the system...
nothing about the editing software it is general...

I have no idea of the diagnostic and I never had this kind of problem before.

Does someone already had this kind of issue before??

Heat?

1. The new graphics card could be generating more heat. I would get a temperature monitoring program to check the temperatures in the box. If the GPU gets too hot, it will freeze or reboot. The CPU's will also shutdown if the temperatures get too hot.

The MacPro fan profiles are designed for specific hardware. Adding different hardware can create enough heat that the fan profiles cannot compensate for it. I used SMC Fan Control to boost my fan RPMs up to keep the temperatures at a reasonable level. When I swapped 4 cores for 8 cores, the minimum CPU fan settings had to be doubled to handle the extra heat. I also had to add a PCI cooler card to remove extra heat for an upgraded GPU in the expansion card area. The fan could not remove enough heat fast enough to keep the GPU from shutting down.

2. Reseat your RAM modules. An improperly seated RAM stick may lose contact when it gets hot.

The Temperature does'nt look like beeing involved.

I am also wondering if the problem is not coming from the power input.
but I can't get any info about it. Do you know what is the power W of a Mac Pro 2XQuad core 2,4Ghz??

Is it lower than 400W?? Apparently the problem could be from there.

The 2010 Mac Pro PSU rated 980W, should be much more than enough.

Let say your CPUs draw 260W, all 4 PCIe slot draw 300W, 2 aux 6pin cable draw 150W. You still have 270W for your airport card, HDD, USB etc.

that's a release, it means that the Mac Pro can hold 3 PCIe card.
GC, USB3, Black Magic!!

When I putted my Radeon 5770 back in the Mac Pro the problem seems to be gone.

It looks like the problem is coming from the new graphic card then...
But the card was working before so I am a bit lost...
I will test the card on another computer.

Any idea to fix the problem?

May be you can get the crash log from console. Post that, and someone here may able to help.
