Help garageband has decided when deleting and wanting to keep that space ..and join regions it reinstates it WTF

Please help ..why is garageband reinstating the deleted section when joining regions..never done before...am wanting to keep the dead space between

So am editing podcast and am getting some spill from other mic so obvs want that deleted and join regions as always do leaving that space as blank

Can someone please direct to a troubleshooting site am at a loss

Hello dont know who responded if had moved so deleted an extra track and unknowingly had moved...thank you so much
