i just turned on my computer today, and i found that my screen is covered by a grid of short lines or small dots. The problem is more evident when i try to look at pictures through Preview.

Has this happened to anyone else ? How can i fix it ? :(

Thanks.

Can you provide more specifications of your hardware (specifically your graphics card)?

It looks to me like your graphics card is broken and you may need to take it to the Apple Store.

Go to disk utility and verify permissions. Then, using Terminal, fix the permissions with chmod as root

Try going into Disk Utility and verify permissions. Then use the terminal to fix the permissions with chmod as root.

If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling Leopard.

You could even take it to the Apple Store, but I doubt they would fix a G5 for free...

EDIT: Don't take my word for it too much, simply because I have never owned an iMac. I simply gathered information for you.

I tried it and it didn't work . :(

I appreciate your help ! Thank you very much ! ;)
