I have found a few posts about trying to get files from apple tv to new Mac hard drive...my problem is a bit different. All of my iTunes content was stored on an external hard drive which crashed (knocked off the desk  )...my iTunes library still shows the content but can't locate the file. Everything is also on my Apple TV...can I simply get iTunes to "point" itself to the apple tv in order to locate the file, or can I just copy it down somehow...I tried to synch, but wouldn't work.

please help, anyone?!!?

The Apple TV doesn't quite work that way. You are getting that little exclamation point icon in iTunes because it is trying to locate your files but can't (since your drive crashed).

If you have previously synced your music to the Apple TV then you can use a patchstick hack to get your content off. You need to install ssh and then ssh into it from your computer. There are plenty of threads on the interwebz on how to do this.
