Hi. I`ve sold my iBook G4 to a switcher. And it`ll be going tomarrow. But the Help.app is not working properly at all. Clicking on the finder help results in a blank help window. Then I click on HOME and I can see the first page with topics: WHATS NEW IN TIGER,DISCOVERING UR MAC,TOP CUSTOMER ISSUES etc. But clicking on any of the link is fruitless as nothing happens. He`d really love the switching from windows guide. It helped me a lot wen I switched 4 months ago.
Please tell me how can I restore help to make it work. It gives me a response when I type something in the ASK A QUESTION. But that too is very uncertain. Sometimes it comes up with a lot of results. Othertimes it just doesnt show anything at all.

And yes I know it wud be much easier and better to ask any problem on this forum than using apple help. Still one cant be online all the time. I need it to work right now. Is there a fix. Or can i reinstall just the help. Will that work?

Help Viewer.app sucks. It's just terrible. I suggest avoiding it whenever possible. Maybe if you move the prefs file?
 I dont really know how to do that. Will that make it work? I really need it working.

It might. It's in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist

OK. i can locate it. Now what should i do. I tried to move it to some other folder. And then tried finder help again. But same result. Where should i put the moved file?

If you moved it, relaunched help viewer.app, and it still didn't work, then no dice. You can move it back if you want. Like I said, the app is very finicky, and can't really be relied on.

thanx stridey for your effort. but this is not a rare problem. Why aint there a fix for it. Anyone else?

Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Thanx a lot again berg. It works absolutely great now.

But I almost had a heart attack when I realized that the iBook didnt show the login screen for atleast 10 minutes after rebooting. All I can see was a blue screen which was constantly reminding of BSOD from windows. Then I remembered I had read a post topic "Computer not working after 10.4.6 update". I almost had an attack. I had to send it to the buyer tomarrow. What if it doesnt work at all. I`ll be doomed. Deal will be cancelled. I m really in a hurry to sell this iBook. Coz once MacBooks are officially announced the rates will decrease atleast 20% more. Thank god it`s working now.

Hi vikas ...

Sometimes people have long boot up times after an update ..

You might want to try booting up again to see if it resolves itself ...

Sometimes using the combo update solves a lot of problems ...

Combo and Delta Updates

Just remember ...
Before any system or security update ..
1. Disconnect all peripherals except keyboard and mouse ..
2. Make sure sleep and screensaver are disabled ....
3. Quit all other apps ..

Cheers ...
