None of them no dvd i put in my dvd drive is mounting, loading into dvd player or getting seen by mac the ripper
please help asap this is urgent

from what i can tell its only video dvds that arent showing normal cds work but just not video dvds (im looking for a data dvd to test)

Hm.. that would stand to reason that it's not a hardware problem. Have you installed/removed anything weird lately?

Nothing that would effect the dvd drive then. Interesting. If it still works for regular CD's, but no video CD's... I really don't know.

If you're still under warantee, I'd give the Apple store a call and see what they say.

No problem, sorry I couldn't help more. Maybe madjew or someone else will pop in with some words of wisdom.

Update

Just called my local service centre and they said that it could be a dvd laser problem and that i should bring it in so they can have a look and fix it, which should only take a day or 2 but ive been there before and thats what they said about my ibook screen but after 2 weeks of waiting i learned not to trust estimates

What exactly happens when you put the disk in the drive? Does it go in and eject immediately? Does Finder freeze up momentarily like it's trying to read the disk?

If you take it in to the centre, ask if you can wait until they have the right part before dropping it off.

Also, just to rule out a firmware issue, reset the PMU. :)

I knew something like this would happen it always does:
I tried with all the dvds i could think of and then i tried one of my dads (which I later found out was a single layer disc) and it worked then i tried all the others and they all worked this is so wierd so if any of you have an idea of what has happened, or whether i should still have the part replaced tell me .
