Just called my local service centre and they said that it could be a dvd laser problem and that i should bring it in so they can have a look and fix it, which should only take a day or 2 but ive been there before and thats what they said about my ibook screen but after 2 weeks of waiting i learned not to trust estimates
What exactly happens when you put the disk in the drive? Does it go in and eject immediately? Does Finder freeze up momentarily like it's trying to read the disk?
If you take it in to the centre, ask if you can wait until they have the right part before dropping it off.
Also, just to rule out a firmware issue, reset the PMU.
I knew something like this would happen it always does:
I tried with all the dvds i could think of and then i tried one of my dads (which I later found out was a single layer disc) and it worked then i tried all the others and they all worked this is so wierd so if any of you have an idea of what has happened, or whether i should still have the part replaced tell me .
