I've search online and can't find a good answer to this. I am trying to annotate notes in Apple Books with the Apple Pencil on an iPad Pro 10.5. From what I read you want to convert the book to a PDF in Apple Books which then allows annotations, but when I click the book options and select "Add to Collection" the PDFs option is grayed out. I am on iOS 12

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

you can do notes right in Apple Books format but be warned that you'll have to highlight at least a word to add a note. and it will be a typed note. no handwriting or drawing. this is in fact one of the things that remains a huge nit to me.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to export an Apple Book to another format and App that will allow me to use the pencil?

Yeah it's a huge shortcoming of the Books app. I couldn't believe it when I realized how limited the Pencil was for books and PDFs in Books. Even with PDFs it behaves strangely and not at all the way I expected.

Any work arounds? Is there another service that allows you to buy digital books and use in either that app or export to say GoodNotes for annotation with Apple Pencil?

Look into the apps LiquidText and Flexcil for powerful pencil annotation of PDFs

What I would suggest most probably not work for you but I can still try. You can import pdf files (also powerpoint but that's another topic) in OneNote. After that you can annotate there. There are other Notes app (like goodnotes, notability) that might offer the same. However the two I mentioned are paid. OneNote is free, but you need Microsoft account.

Thank you. Can't believe there isn't an easier option.

No problem and wait a bit for others. I just bought my first iPad a month ago. There are a lot of things that I don't know as well. Maybe there is an easier option that I don't know about.
