Hotmail, unlike nearly every other email system out there, wants you to pay for the premium service just so you can use it with a desktop email client or mobile client like the Mail app on iTunes. EDIT - clients not made by Microsoft that is...

You can't use Hotmail on the iPhone without paying for the premium service.

If you can, switch to a good free email service like GMail - hotmail is showing less and less value each and every day.

Hi, I have some good news!
I succeeded in using my regular (free) hotmail account on mail. You need a jailbroken device and just follow the instructions on this link!
