I'm trying to remove the cage fans in a 2009 mac pro. I'm following an apple guide and after I remove the processor tray, I have to remove three cables, spkr, front fan, rear fan. The guide simply says to remove them, but I've given them a little pull and they wont come loose, i don't want to pull them any harder till I know which way is right, it seems to be in two sections. Has anyone done this before? I phoned AppleCare and they didn't know, ha. Thanks.

Help! How to disconnect Spkr and fan cables

Sorry, but does anyone have any advice? Its the last bit I have to do. I've searched the web but can't find anything. Usually they should just plug in, but the top and the bottom parts of the plug seem to lock together somehow. Thanks..

The PCI-E fan slides out after you remove two screws and the main intake/exhaust pop out IIRC.

The two lower fans on either side of the processor tray. After I slide out the processor tray there are three cables that you have to disconnect spkr, front fan and rear fan, before I can remove the fans.
I got the top one out no problem. I've looked at guides for the iMac and Macbooks and they disconnect the fan cables by pulling toward you in a standing case, but these definitely look like they go downwards. I can't really try both ways without risking damage, surely someone must have done this before?

OK, here's a picture of the front fan and spkr connection, as you can see the top part and bottom seem to overlap, so pulling the bottom part downwards it met with resistance. The top part doesn't seem to have a clasp movement to it, it doesn't look like it moves at all, any ideas?
