Omg so I copied and pasted my password and then changed it and I thought I was easy enough to remember it now I can’t remember the password! Duck!!!!!!

I still have access to the mac, my finger print unlocks it and I’m copying all my files to an external but if I shut the computer off or restart for a software update I’m super super screwed. Is there anyway out of this?

File vault is turned on too ugh.

Dude you are a life saver. Hope it works. Still transferring my photos and videos just incase. I'll restart afterwards. Weird enough I can't change my laptop. I wonder if this is a security feature by apple due to too many incorrect password attempts.

Btw, I usually make two admin accounts. That way I can reset one admin account from the other. At least, it used to work that way, I haven’t tried since Monterey and M1.

It's a good idea to write down on paper essential passwords (as in a "little black book").
The above thread is testimony as to "why"...

This is a really good idea... I don't give my user account admin rights, but have a separate admin account-- having a second admin account seems sensible.
