Help! I just witnessed an ant crawl under my keyboard!

Ok something else just happened. I took off the keyboard real quick to see if i could find it. And when i did everything was fine. But when i put the keyboard back on the screen went black. Then when i hit keys nothing would happen. So i had to hold down the powerbutton. Then it shut off. Then i held down the powerbutton again and it turned on and went streight to my user settings without even asking me which user i wanted to use. So then i looked in the user manual and it said your supposed to shut off the computer and take out the battery before removing the keyboard. Should of read before i did that. Did i just mess up my ibook?
Not really. The reasons you are supposed to switch of the power and remove the battery are that if you add memory it is easy to kill the slots by touching active parts of the logic board. I have done it loads of times with my old iBook. I have had the computer freeze before but never go onto a different startup screen. Nothing too serious I would have thought. The big questions is though.... did you get the ant out?
You bet i found it. And i squashed the hell out of it! Haha. Well you know how when you go to the apple and you log out then you log back in using whatever user you want. Well I didnt get that "which user do you want to log in using" menu.With this all i did was press and hold the power button (because the screen was black)and the backlight was still on. So i pressed and held the power button and it shut off then i held it again and i got that little start up noise. Then i got the gray screen with the apple in the middle and the spinning lines below it. Then it went streight to my user settings. Backround and everything. What happened?Richard Youden said:
Remember on Windows they had a thing called safe mode that you could log in via when there was a problme with the computer... It may have been something like that. When you remove the keyboard the computer shuts itself down to protect itself and may need to go through a special boot to make sure everthing is OK. Did it take longer to boot than normal? If everytime I fried my iBook and all that hapened was that I couldn't enter my password I would be alot better off!
You just put the iBook to sleep. And then work it up, and you were back where you started. No big deal.
No because when i shut the lid the light wasnt pulsing and when i hit keys it wouldnt wake up. I had to hold the powerbutton down.yellow said:

unless your Macintosh grew on a tree, I wouldn't worry about an ant being inside it. I once heard a pop and spotted a spark out of the back of my G3. It turned out to be a Ladybug that got into the power supply (so I think). I spotted a red wing with black dots..

don't smash the ant! i'll tell you why. these b_st_rds have something like 36 different glands they use to communicate with. they can produce scents by mixing the various glands and pass information to their brethren. in general, they will come after a fallen brother and carry him away. smash the ant, mix the glands and holy hell can happen. best to pay attention to the "scout ants", gently relocating them outside...CaptainCaveMann said:

I wonder if the ant feels a little like Tron. After finishing Tron 2.0 - I have a much better understanding of how computers work!

I had this happen to me a couple of times with my TiBook. Either the ants didn't find anything inside that they were interested in or died in there, nothing's wrong. It's more likely that the problem you experienced with your 'book was related to you removing the keyboard than the ant itself...

Of course in you don't die -- your arm, leg, or crotch could swell up really big.
So keep that epi-pen handy.
But, if they are really smart ants -- one will hide next inside the container and bite you again when you try to use the injector.
