I'm a novice with 2 old iMacs, running OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and I'd like some advice on how to upgrade. I can't download Yosemite via the site, assuming it's because of minimum system requirements. Software update says there are no updates for me at this time. What can I do?

The First Imac is:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

The second is:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

What are my options? Any help appreciated!!!!!!!

TIA

The maximum that you can install on both systems is Lion (OS X 10.7).

See specs. and info for you iMac 5.1 system here:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-20-inch-specs.html

See specs. and info for you iMac 6.1 system here:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-24-inch-specs.html

(Maximum installable operating system is listed towards the bottom of these pages).

Seeing as your iMac 5.1 only has 1 GB RAM I would maybe hold off on trying to upgrade it.

See minimum system requirements here:

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202328

Lion was available for purchase through the App Store.

With only 1GB and 2GB of RAM installed on those Macs, you're best bet is staying right where you are.

I just need to get them up to icloud. I wonder if I move up to Lion if I would be able to upgrade from there as well?

Thanks for your advice!!
