Help!! I think I did something bad in Terminal

I was trying to install a program called YPops into my PB so it would create a POP server on my computer for my Yahoo mail, so I could use it in Mail. Yahoo doesn't do it for free anymore. It told me to do something in a terminal to install it and I tried, but it didn't work -- the question is, could I have done some permanent damage?

I have signed up for GMail to use with Mail (though I might just end up using my POP from my web site) but I wanted to keep fowarding messages from the Yahoo account until I had made the transition. I think I'm going to be stuck with Yahoo though, because there's no way I can just completely change my email address; I'm signed up for tons of newsletters, tons of contacts, etc. I've had this account for YEARS. I hate Yahoo .

It's possible that you did something bad, but, unless you entered an admin password, it's very very unlikely, and, even with an admin password, you probably didn't do anything wrong/damaging to your Mac.

No, it's working fine. But I really know next to nothing about the Mac system, so I just wanted to be sure. All the instructions told me to do was drag some files into the Terminal -- would that kill anything? I have since deleted the files from the folder I had them originally.

I'm sure you're fine. Anything that would really mess up your Mac would require an admin password, and, if you notice no problems, what you did most likely did not do anything bad.

Terminal is very similar to the DOS window in Windows - it lets you type in commands that might be difficult or impossible to enter with the graphical user interface. You can do a lot with it, but it's not critical for most users to know much about it.
