iPhone Help!!!!! I think I just bricked my new iPhone 5!!!!

I just got my i5 last night. It was on 6.0.2 which I immediately jailbroke. Then this morning, I see that evasi0n released the update to jailbreak 6.1.2.

So what I did was I downloaded the new evasi0n, downloaded the 6.1.2 ipw from iphonewiki (firmware section), hit option+restore in iTunes on my Mac, chose the ipw, and let it do its thing.

Well, now it gives an error in iTunes that says it couldn't restore, and my new phone is stuck in that screen with the USB pointing at iTunes, and when I enter into DFU mode, nothing happens in iTunes!!!

why didnt you just restore the first jailbreak and upgrade through itunes then rejailbroke?

Your issue sounds a little different, but there have been other issues reported here:

I don't know. I just didn't. I know it's supposedly impossible to brick a phone nowadays, but this is ridiculous!!

I was able to get in DFU mode and am restoring a 6.1.1 ipw through iTunes in my old crappy pic laptop... Hopefully it works.....






Crap! Same error. Now I'm trying the software update through iTunes online.... 10 min to go. If this doesn't work, I'm returning it and will say I don't know what happened to it, which is pretty much true....

I was able to get in DFU mode and am restoring a 6.1.1 ipw through iTunes in my old crappy pic laptop... Hopefully it works.....






Crap! Same error. Now I'm trying the software update through iTunes online.... 10 min to go. If this doesn't work, I'm returning it and will say I don't know what happened to it, which is pretty much true....

They will be able to detect the jailbreak. Hopefully it works op

First of all, relax. Your phone is not "bricked." There is no need to rush off to Apple for a replacement. There are a number of things that can cause this sort of issue, none of which involves your phone being "bricked."

Secondly, what is the exact text of the error message? Because there are so many things that can prevent an iPhone properly restoring, without knowing the error message it's really going to be impossible for us to help. It could be an issue with your hosts file, network connection, USB port, USB cable, a corrupted download, an incompatible firmware, an incompatible version of iTUnes, etc. The point is that we need to know exactly what error you are experiencing in order to help.

Yep, you're right. I did kind of start freaking out like a frightened school girl. Next time I will rationally realize that actual bricking is nearly impossible and be a bit more patient.

You bricked the phone and instead of taking responsibility for it, plan to abuse Apple's return policy. Dishonesty these days...
