So, I recently tried updating my 4S from 6.1.2 (jailbroken with envasion) to 8.1.2 (or whatever the newest ios is). I tried doing what I remembered from the last time I jailbroke my phone-- I downloaded the newest ios off redmondpie, I backed up my phone, and hit restore while holding alt/option to restore to the ispw. Either way, I screwed up in some fashion and now my phone is in this weird limbo stage where it won't turn on, I can't restore it without updating, and I can't update it because my current build isn't "supported" or something.

Help!! I have no idea what to do...!

HELP!! I tried updating my jailbroken phone for the first time in two years...!

Your hosts file is either pointing to Cydia or you have downloaded the incorrect ipsw. Put your device in recovery or DFU mode and let iTunes download the correct firmware for you.

I fixed my host file as instructed by apple, and tried the ispw download from itunes, but it tried to download/install 6.1.3, and again I got the "build is not supported" error.

Mac or PC? You need to go into your iTunes library and delete all complete or partial ipsw files. Then restart iTunes and attempt the download again.

Alright, I did that. Imma try redownloading that in a bit. Right now, I'm trying to install 8.1.2 via a friends computer.

I believe what you are being told is to stop trying to install from an IPSW.

You have to let iTunes do the job. In other words, stop holding down option when trying to restore. Simply click on the prompts that iTunes gives you without trying to do anything fancy or special.
