Hey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.

But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.

I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).

So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work, this can become a pain for me/

All help is appreciated. Thanks!

If it helps, my iMac is a week 18. But the yellowish tint could happen to anyone.

Well its not like your computer is infectious or something that you must get it taken care of right away. If you hardly notice it then perhaps its not really a problem?

That's kind of the thing with complaint forums and how they are similar to medical websites. Once you read all about the different diseases you can get and how you can get them, you become pretty paranoid and panicky and look for ways to prove to yourself that you have some disease (this happens especially to med students from what I hear).

Much like here, where many people just can't live with an unnoticeable imperfection and it causes everyone else to go over their equipment [which they previously were satisfied with] with a fine-tooth comb to look for imperfections that they can act on too.

My 27" (i5) screen has dead pixel on the lower right side, and I notice that there's a splotch of slightly darker coloring near the bottom all the way across. It is only noticeable at the initial boot screen, and not even from every angle. When the computer is fully started up, I don't notice either imperfection at all (unless I really look for them and focus). I also do Photoshop and video editing, but I hardly ever edit on the bottom 1/10th of my screen (usually do most of my work toward the top and middle).

I just got my computer this past week. I will probably wait until the warranty/AppleCare I will get for it is almost over to have it checked out. Maybe two and a quarter years from now they won't even repair it and just offer a replacement.

Or even if they repair it I can always sell the unit and buy the latest model (which is what I'll do anyway before the Applecare coverage expires, as its resale value will drop after that and I figure 3 years is a good amount of time to keep a computer). For now I'm pretty damn happy and I don't feel like going through the hassle of repair since I need to get work done, and besides, like I said, I can't see any problems unless I am focusing on them (even then its hard when I have something other than a pure gray background on).

What I'm trying to say is its not a big deal, and its not an emergency (like your hard drive exploding or something). Relax, and if it doesn't really bother you AND its a big hassle to have it taken care of right now (which it sounds like it is) then just enjoy your equipment and take care of it later if it becomes a big bother.

If it's that big of a deal, return it. Apple is usually pretty good about their 14 day return policy and would most likely give you a new one. The only thing you should think of is how bad is the yellow tint, because you could end up with one that is worse. Then you are in what seems like an endless cycle of returning computers because of this issue. My friend returned 4 or 5 till he got one with no yellow tint. But to be honest, his first one was BARELY noticeable.
