Help!!!, IMac 5K confuration in applestore on line

Hi everyone from north Germany!!!.

I'm few confused about the optimal configuration of the IMac 5K in the applestore on line.

My principal activity would be Photoshop, Lightroom for raw files and Final Cut for video. No gaming or 3d, etc.....

I start configuring from M390 model, 256 SSD and I5 CPU. So I'm tempted choice an I7, then the price is very similar to the top model cost (I5 3.3 M395 and 256SSD). In that situation I think again that maybe better the I7 too......

My budget isn't the most problem, that it's, but I don't want to buy an overkill computer and pay for a perfomance innecessary for me.

You don't need an i7, but you would improve better GPU, then you will have best perfomance for video and photography edition.

Obviously the most expensive option is the best, but you do not need it at all.

You'll never buy an "overkill" computer as you phrased it because all of those specs will just transfer into future proofing.

There is no doubt that in time, you will be putting those specs to use.

I found the top end model to be the best value, but opted for the pure SSD option over the fusion drive.

I'm not sure if you'll notice the difference between a M390 and M395X for video and graphics editing. AFAIK, the video memory is the same.

Also for the i5 CPUs, the choice is between 3.2 vs. 3.3 GHz with a higher turbo boost frequency.

Personally I would pick the entry CPU, M390X, invest in a SSD (at least 256 GB) and go for the full 32 GB SDRAM (order 8 GB, then add yourself).

Personally I would pick the M390X

Not offered by Apple for the iMacs.

The 390 is capable to run the machine (unlike the 380), but if you go for the top end model the price difference is very small, and the 395 is the better card.

Of course if your needs demand the 395x, then by all means go for that. But not everyone's does.

I prefer the M395 GPU, I think you'll see better performance over the M390. The SSD is a nice choice and as mentioned above, there's no need for the i7.

get the lowest ram possible and then upgrade via OWC or Crucial. The money you save is incredible. And the iMac 27" can go up to 64gb

That, more than bumping the processor from i5 to i7 is going to do wonders for photo and video.

Actually, I agree with you.

The i5 6600 is a fine processor. Been working wonderfully for me.

Suggest you get the i5 3.3 with the M395 GPU. That combo says cool, at least that is my experience. Also, try to get the SSD option which is blazing fast and quiet. Another option is to look at refurb'd units off Apple.com. I purchased one of the refurb'd late 2015 iMac. Been a great purchase that saved me money, with the same warranty.
