help, imac incredibly slow, reinstalled 10.6

Hello everyone, recently i started suffering pretty bad from color wheel load time where safari was getting glitchy and taking forever to move.

I tried to cold start it to see if a refresh would help. Well it white screened, and wouldnt exit the loading screen.

I reset the ram memory with alt ctrl p and r; this did nothing. Eventually I kissed all my music projects and logic pro 9 good bye, and reformatted from the boot disc. When i went to use it, i got out of the white screen, but was ridiculously slow.

thinking maybe i didnt do the partition right, i reformatted again, erased the entire drive, set the partition, and loaded 10.6. Any time i open safari, it gets glitchy, and incredibly slow to the point I cant even restart. I cleared the memory again and this still did nothing. I purchased and installed new ram; still nothing.

Coming from windows a reformat usually takes care of things. I have no idea what I can do at this point.

Are there any causes or reasons? Or any solutions? My mac became my life blood and I really dont want to pay 600$ for another motherboard.

any help would be awesome please!

its a 2007 24'' 2.4 ghz 2gb ram

You already formatted your hard drive, so what does it matter if your hard drive fails?

If you had precious data, you should've backed it up. If you're covered under AppleCare they will install a new hard drive.

not covered, will most likley be doing the install myself. I agree about the back up, but really wasnt expecting a total hard drive crash. I have to purchase an external drive now.

Probably the hard drive. Girlfriend had a similar issue and the new drive fixed this. Installing it yourself isn't fun but it's doable.

ALWAYS expect a total hard drive crash. Always.

I never mess around with backups. I have Time Machine backups as well as additional backups of particularly important files (tax records, receipts, kids' birth certificates, documents for work, photographs, etc.). Having backup copies in two locations is, I think, fairly important if you value your data.

In fact, I just bought a Drobo FS for expandable backup space. Copying stuff over to it now... 13 hours to go...

Well this is peculiar....when i insert the mac book disc it runs fine. but when i take it out, it slows down again..any reason for this?
