Anyone have any idea why Disk Utility won't erase an external drive for back up.
I have a back-up of my old High Sierra OS on an external drive, but I now want to overwrite it with Sierra because I went back to it on my MBP and need to back up drive. It just worked better for me than HS on an older MBP. So want to back up this over the old HS drive.
When trying to erase the external drive and change back to Mac Extended Journaled, it won't work and keeps showing this error every time I click erase:
Erasing APFS Volume File Content
An internal error has occurred.
Operation failed…

Also, the drop down on the CCC link shows 'Guid' Partition option, but my Sierra doesn't show this, just the name and the Format option, no Scheme, and the partition option is blanked out in the bar as well.
Question is, once you've gone APFS can you not erase the drive to make it Extended Journaled anymore, or is there something else that's causing this?
Thanks
