Hi all,

Recently my MacBook from 2015 started to be a bit slow :( The boot takes between 35 and 45 seconds, depending on the day.
I tried to clean up space (I have 250GB), now I have 90GB free but did not help.
I bought an external Samsung SSD T5 to move on it some pics, but now browsing around I found this topic that may help me,
so I would like to use the T5 as a primary disk. Do you think will boost the speed? Because I have already an internal SSD.

In case it worths to try, I would have then a second question. I have never done it before, so I am a bit worried. The guide is quite clear on that topic (also to a newbie like me), but there are some steps I do not know.
If I clone everything from the internal SSD to the T5 with Carbon Copy Cloner, can I then format the internal disk completely? Or would you recommend a clean install of macOS on the T5? but then I have no clue how I can move all the apps without reinstalling them.

Many thanks!

You do not need to have a clue on how to reinstall, Apple does it all for you. Once the fresh new install is done as the last part of the install it gives you the option to either transfer from the existing machine drive, time machine back your files and applications. Or if you want just proceed to creating new account with nothing transferred. On the speed idea no way an external SSD is ever going to be faster than an internal one, spinning drive sure will be.

A t5 will not be "faster than" the internal SSD on a 2015 MBP.

If the computer is suddenly slowing down, it may be due to problems other than the physical drive itself.

Please download BlackMagic Speed Test (free download at the app store).
Run it, record the read/write speeds of the internal drive.
Then... post them here.

Thank you fishrrman.

Here the results.
