Help installing Mac OS X

my imac doesnt boot i have inserted the mac os x install dvd and appears a mesaage saying that "you cannot install mac os x in this computer", click OK and go into Disk Utility and nothing appears the only disk found is the DVD driver. there is no Hard drive at all; it was working perfectly yesterday.
(iMac intel core 2 duo)

Please Help me

If it says "you cannot install on this computer" it means the grey install disk is not the correct one for this computer. The grey disks are specific to the model; a MBP grey disk will not work in an iMac

Either the correct grey Restore DVD or the 29 USD Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD (which is a full RETAIL version). And yes, you could do the latter.

That is not clear, as an iMac Core 2 Duo could also have come with Tiger or Leopard. But what can one do, if the OP is unclear?
