Hi all,

Trying to install ML from a USB stick on a new /upgrade hard drive, nothing on it, in a mid 2012 macbook air. Originally, I was using time machine, but got an error message I couldn't resolve ("An error occurred while adding a recovery system to the destination disk")- then, I tried suggestions regarding booting in internet recovery mode and letting it download-- but got another series of errors I couldn't figure out how to resolve (-2000f error) and am now trying this. I'm not sure if this is even the right step as I'm a more recent mac convert and haven't had experience with the nitty gritty of hard drive swapping.

I believe I have the startup disk as the usb drive, but when I go to the reinstall ML option it says it has to check the permissions for the machine and then gives me an error saying it can't be found. I read somewhere that you have to have the internet recovery bit installed and ready to go before trying to install from a USB-- is this correct? If so, does anyone know any solid solutions to Apple.com support error -2000f? Or does anyone know a workaround for the time machine issue? I've tried looking at many other forum threads around these issues but haven't found anything that has worked.

hopefully someone can help me out quickly as I am leaving the country tomorrow and need this new drive!:confused:

You probably need to boot to the USB stick, and run the disk utility. Erase/partition the drive. Select GUID partition type, Format to HFS+ and select Journaled.

Then try time machine, or clean install.

hmm..it now appears to not be showing up as a startup disk. any thoughts other than trying again with a different usb? (it's actually an SD card in a card reader, but I assumed it woudn't make a difference).
