Hi Guys,

I am devastated, once again, because frightened I did something wrong. 😭

iPad BACKUP: 11am
iPad REPLACEMENT and RESTORE: 6pm

iPhone and iMessage was used in the meantime, but both devices had iCloud Backup for everything activated, iMessages of course as well.

So now I have iMessages on my iPhone from the time between BACKUP IPAD and RESTORE IPAD ....

I thought they are supposed to sync everything??
But it says backup is finished...

Does anyone know how to fix that?

I really hope macrumors helps me out again....

Many many thanks!

Addition:

I just went to SETTINGS - MY NAME - ICLOUD - ICLOUD BACKUP

it now says "some files were unavailable during the last backup."

What does that mean? o_O

I contacted Apple Support...
I am entirely confused.

First, Support told me that I couldn't get the missing iMessages back because iPad was offline and iMessages were received on the other device.

I said, I use iMessages iCloud-Backup and they started screen sharing checking my settings, then agreeing it is odd and it should sync.

I was then told, to wait 24hrs because missing data could still come.
If not, call again.

But is that likely?

Do I have to backup my iPhone - should I reset iPad and do the whole process again?
I just want my iMessages to be synced :(

Don’t panic. Just do the following. Messages will sync up, though perhaps not immediately:

Enabling Messages in iCloud is a simple process, taking just a few seconds on each device. For iOS devices, open Settings > tap on your name > iCloud > slide the switch next to Messages to the On position. Repeat the process on each device you want to keep in sync.

Hi @gwhizkids ,
thank you for your message.

Those buttons were switched on, but I retried on the iPad. Nothing changed. The messages in the offline-period (6hrs) are still missing.

I also noticed my safari tabs are missing... everything is weird.

Hi there,

quick update: So after hours of no change, I disabled iMessages in iCloud, turned it off and then turned everything back on. That seemed to fix it. But then problems with the safari tabs and photos started, so I eventually signed out with my Apple ID and then restarted everything and turned back on.

I really really hope it is fixed now, it took ages for the photos to come back, now it still says "updating 1 item" and I have no idea what that means and why it isn't going away... o_O

I got really frustrated the last days with this whole shenanigans...
