Two days ago I purchased a black 32gb 3gs iPhone, MC model that the owner told me was jailbroken, unlocked, and on version 3.1.2. I met him to purchase the iphone but when he showed me the iphone, it was stuck at the apple logo and had been stuck for an hour. He told me that he had reset all content and settings from the iphone settings menu. Apparently because the phone had been jailbroken and is a 3gs phone, it "broke" when he did reset all content and settings. I did not know this and purchased the phone anyway, thinking that it was just taking a long time.

I went home, plugged it into my computer, and put the phone into DFU mode. I followed this guide:
Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 3.1 FAQs | Redmond Pie … ws-anu759/
I'm on WINDOWS XP. I shift-clicked restore and used the custom restore, but it didn't work, giving me error 1600 and saying that an unknown error occurred.

I do not know the iphone's ECID.

I do not want to update the iphone to version 3.1.3. I want to unlock and jailbreak the iphone. Is there anything I can do?

What do you mean by regular install? If I restore regularly with iTunes, it will update to 3.1.3 and then I will not be able to unlock the phone. Because it is an MC model, I don't think I will be able to jailbreak the phone either.

So you want me to update to 3.1.3 and then jailbreak? Seems risky since I don't know if he's saved the shsh via cydia. It would also upgrade the baseband so I'd be unable to unlock the iphone.
