THANKs in advance!!

Same thing happened to me, still no fix for it. I tried everything, changed cords, computers installed this and that and nothing happened. Someone suggested that it might be the Pins on the bottom of the Iphone where you plug the cord into. I have a new docking pin on order and going to try to replace it when it comes. But solved the problem for now, I went out and bought the 3G today. If a fix comes for my 1st gen I will just sell it.

Good luck if you find something out that I don't know about let me know. :apple:

The most common problem that causes this is the usb connection, so try these:

1 connect with a different usb cable
2 connect to a different USB port
3 connect through a powered usb hub
4 connect to a different PC

Question: can you see the phone as a camera in Windows Explorer?

I have had exactly this problem for a few weeks now.

Have tried all the different USB solutions etc from Apple help. No joy.

This also affects my iPod touch (but not the nano/shuffle etc).

The iPhone does open iPhoto on connection - but doesn't appear as a device in itunes.

Any thoughts?

I have this same problem, and I have not messed with my iPhone either. You can see my iPhone in iTunes, but it will not sync. Calendars, bookmarks, etc. do sync. This started right after I upgraded to the latest iTunes (8.1).

I have tried restarting computer and iPhone a few times. No good.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your problem.
