Help - iPhone3GS Rogers - UK

so i am going to be travelling soon to the UK for about a week and will be in need of a phone! i currently have an iPhone3GS with apple care and was thinking of selling this one and buying a factory unlocked iPhone3GS from the local store here. Thing is, if i need any warranty work done to it, when i take it into the apple store, will it be unlocked or what?

Also - is it possible to get paygo sim cards with data, minutes and text options in the UK? I will mainly be in London and Oxford.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Can't help you with the factory unlocked iPhone dilemma, but in terms of PAYG SIM cards here in the UK, there are tons.

If you have any sort of record in the UK (that is, bank, utilities etc.) it is well worth buying a "SIM only" contract - they are 30 day contracts, but you can always give notice the minute you take up the contract! The advantage is that calls are significantly cheaper (600 minutes for £25 on O2 would be £90 on some pay as you go plans) plus you can get a ton of data as well.

But - either way - SIMs are easily available. I you go somewhere like Carphone Warehouse they can probably tell you the best deal. The SIM itself should be pretty much free.

sim only for 30 days is a terrible idea if your only here for a week

the best option would be to go to a 3 mobile store when you get here buy a pay as you go sim card and top it up with £10 for 300 free texts, £15 for 500 free texts, £20 for 1000 free texts or £25 for unlimited (read: 3000) free texts, then with the top up pay £5 through my3 and you will get 1GB of data valid for 30 days, if you use the full 1GB then just pay another £5 for another 1GB. you can then use the top up money far calls which are a flat 20p a min
also (it won't work with the iphone) but 3 mobile also give free skype calls and IMs so if you use pretty much any other 3G phone you can install the skype app and call anywhere in the world (and you can use skype credit) for free (limit to 3000 mins and 10,000 IMs)
the texts are only valid UK to UK and no network will give you cheep international texts,

even with the skype 3 is prob your best bet but you have to have a 3G phone for the sim to work.

another option would be virgin mobile where you can also pay £5 for 1GB of data on the same terms £10 tp up will give you 300 free texts and £15 will give you 600 (not international either)

you can't buy unlock iphones at the apple store in canada,the best idea is to unlock yours now (if you can)
