Hi,

I have an original ipod mini. when I set the music to shuffle, out of 500 songs, it appears only to play the same 25-30. Is there a setting so it actually plays random songs

Are you sure you're shuffling all of the songs and not just a playlist or an album?

on my ipod, I have five menu items

Playlist
Artist
Songs
Setting
Shuffle song

I click the button "shuffle" at the bottom....

i am 100% confident, that it keeps playing the same 25 songs (roughly)
could this have anything to do with the fact that it's an old ipod? I think in my 3G i can change the randomness...
