hello

i just opened up my 17" macbook pro, and everything seems fine except for one thing. the screen seems very eager to close. it seems almost like the hinge of the screen is loose, and when the laptop gets angeled at all, the screen falls forward and shut. usually its ok, but when moving hte computer, even gently, often the display falls shut. im guesing this isnt normal? just i call apple about this, or am i being ridiculous. i do feel lucky i dont have any other issues. is the hinge on the 17" an issue/bug i should get checked out?

on a side note, how can i tell if apple underclocked my video card, and is it easy to clock it back up to the norm?

This is not "normal"

but, evidently it is not uncommon either.

I have no such problem on my 17" MBP. I've had it less than a week though.

I have two MBP 17", don't ask why, but I open one of them and yes they seem like they want to close. However my stops at aroun 60 degrees and stays there. To me it does not bother me at all.

The 17" obviously has a very heavy screen, so I'm not sure if that's considered "out of spec" by Apple. That said, mine isn't like that--it's tight enough that I can leave it at just about any angle and it will stay.
