I just bought an iPhone today at the Apple store, and when I went to charge it I got the above message in the center of the screen and "No SIM" in the top left corner. When I connected to iTunes it also gave a similar error message. I took the SIM out and reinstalled it, and things worked to activate the phone, but the when it started syncing I got the same message on the phone. After the sync finishes I can try to remove and reinstall again, but what if this happens again? Will updating to 1.02 fw help?

Take it back to the Apple store and tell them to give you a new one ...
That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, the iPhone excitement didn't last long!

EDIT: I reseated the SIM card and updated the firmware from 1.0 to 1.02 and all seems to be OK for the last hour or more. I have powered on and off several times and put in and out of the dock several times, and so far it seems to be holding. If I have the problem again tomorrow I will take it in and ask for an exchange.
