I have been a windows user my whole life until now. I have recently purchased a macbook pro, and is only a week old. About 4 times a day the screen will slowly turn gray from top to bottom and i am told to restart the computer. once i reboot the computer there is an error report and something about a kernel panic something and the error codes. these attacks happen at complete random times. it will happen when im trying to log into my user account, or when im opening the internet, or even when im just opening system preferences.

Second problem is that i will be on safari or msn messenger and the internet will cut out about 8 times a day. i called the apple help line. the first time they thought it was wireless interference but by the second time i called there, the new guy ruled that out. he said its possible to have something wrong with the router but i highly doubt that because my sisters cheap inspiron dell computer has never cut out once ever. sometimes when i am on safari and going to a website and it wont load up, i open up the internet connections thing thats on the top right hand bar and it seems after opening that up, the webpage will open right away. same thing happens witrh msn, if its taking a while to sign in, ill open internet connections and all of a sudden msn will sign in and load my contacts.... what should i do about these two problems?

multiple kernel panics is bad, it's usually the sign of a hardware problem although it can be caused by bad/loose RAM. Check that the RAM is inserted properly.

i thought once u reopen ur mac and start moving around the hardware, the warranty is then void?

Does this problem occur when you have the mbp connected to the power?

go to HD>Applications>Utilities>System Profiler

Then Software>Logs>Panic.log

Copy and paste in this post what you have there.

I have been watching this thread and have a question

I dont have a panic.log

I have an error.log

Where do I find the panic log

It is a known problem. Apple is working on it but really, not fast enough. How long should it take to release a patch that makes wifi stable again (10.4.9 was rock solid)

My msn is crashing like crazy just today too.. also getting some strange errors when trying to slice in Imageready CS2.. This is starting to drive me nuts..

Think i can send apple a bill for the lost time? haha

i am so freeking pissed. im on my average acer desktop running windows right now... hey look it i can respond on this forum without my internet cutting out, something my 2,300 dollar MBP could not to. f*ck, might as well buy a 500 dollar dell inspiron notebook for university in the upcoming months, atleast i know i wont have a freeking kernel panic attack in the middle of a major essay or project

yeah well thanks that kinda helped but doesnt really achieve anything. the thing is when a company like apple tries to pursuade you into believing that its better than microsoft and you should get an apple, and also u pay this kind of money, you'd expect it to be just as good or better than a pc. i've basically paid 2,300 dollars for a bunch of problems i have to fix at my own effort. my sisters dell inspiron that was probably no more than 800 bucks is perfectly fine and no problems what so ever

dang that sucks, you must be heavy into the video editing then. for me i didnt see getting the most expensive mbp would be practical just for engineering in university

if you get a wifi drop go to the pizza/wifi icon in the menubar and select the 'open internet connection' - wait a few seconds and ive found the connection coming back on.

need others to verify this possibility
