HELP! Mac mini 2014 stuck on Checking for Updates!

I want to update my Mac mini from (Catalina) to (Big Sur) but every time I try to update it gets stuck at checking for updates :-(

Is it something to do with my specs?

Processor 1.4 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
4GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536MB
500 GB HDD

I've restarted multiple times HECK! I've even done terminal stuff, and settings now claims there is an update, but won't show any!

PLEASE HELP ME!

Can you boot into recovery and install from there? (Option-Command-R to reinstall latest macOS compatible or Command-R to reinstall your current OS)

I can try to...but I do wonder, will macOS big sur make my Mac a slug?

Have you tried reinstalling macOS from Recovery? Not erasing your data, just reinstalling the OS.
