Hi,
I bought a new Dual Core i7 16GB 1TB Mac Mini a month ago.
All of a sudden (over the last week or so), when booting the machine from off, no display output is sent to my Dell monitor. The Mac Mini itself appears to boot with no issues and is not in sleep mode. The monitor just insists there is no signal sent from my Computer.
For the last few days I assumed this was an issue with the Dell monitor itself as they are prone to issues with receiving a display signal. However, I recently hooked the display to a Surface Pro for testing purposes and I had no issues (using the same Displayport to Mini Displayport cable).
I tried everything, including hard rebooting the Mac Mini to no avail. As a last ditch attempt I made up my own reboot method (which I believe probably isn't to healthy for the Mac Mini): Whilst the Mac Mini is on I hold down the power button for 15 - 20 seconds and releas. I then continuously tap the power button which fires up the Mac Mini and cuts the power roughly 3 seconds into the boot. I then press the button once to reboot for a final time and by some miracle the Mac Mini sends a signal to my display. I now have to repeat this process every morning to get the display to fire up.
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
And what is it about my very random boot method that seems to revive the display output, when a normal reboot won't?
Finally, I'm assuming doing this everyday will have some kind of negative impact on the Mac Mini?
Thanks all!
