Help - mac mini white screen only

Have mac mini 2009 with 3rd party RAM and HD installed by a technician. This worked fine up until now. Since this morning, when trying to start the machine, the chime sounds, then there is a white/grey screen. Trying to zap PRAM doesn't work. Trying to boot from install DVD doesn't work either.

Any help on how to fix this greatly appreciated
