HELP! MacBook has completely frozen!

My MacBook has completely frozen!

Its brand new and i've only had it for about a month, and the whole thing has just suddenly frozen!

I think it might be to do with the fact that it's really hot weather today, and i was in one of the hottest rooms in the house charging it and using it at the same time - may have been too much for it to handle.

But now my question is...what the heck do i do?

I've moved it to a much cooler room, but so far it's had no effect.

Also, i don't know if there is a way to shut down the MacBook other than manually clicking the apple button etc.

Nothing i key in works, the whole screen is just....frozen, like i say.

Sorry i'm repeating myself, just a bit panicked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not because of room temperature. The fan can handle that.

It happens time to time, newly installed program not happy with something.

Just hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force a shutdown and then power it up again. You'll loose all unsaved documents though.

Hold down the power button and let her cool down a bit. Restart and see how things are.

Just press the power button for a few seconds and the MB would shut down.


Let it cool for sometime and then turn it on again and tell us how it goes.

I think i'll delete all unnecessary programmes/files for now, because i'm using up quite a lot of memory, so hopefully that should speed things up a bit.

hard shutdown

pushing the power button for 5 seconds will force shutdown. Wait a few seconds after that and then you can then boot normally.

If for some reason the power butoon is also unresponsive then unplug the computer and remove the battery. Wait a few seconds and then put the battery back in, plug it back in and push the power button.

The same process also works for Windows. In either case some unsaved data may be lost in any applications you were working in. OS X will attempt to recover some of this data and save it to the desktop.

Thanks to all the replies, nice to know you can get such a quick and helpful response on here

I switched it off, then switched it back on again to remove some files, and now i've shut it down and left it to cool, everything seems fine now though.
