Hi everyone.
I have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina. During the day today about an hour after a mild drop, the screen started to glitch between purple and green. Then I set it down and switched to a different computer. After awhile, I came back to it, and it looked like this:

I tried some sort of command (I think it was option+command+shift or something) and it came back but was still glitching (i think the glitch is a loose connector) then I turned it off. Later I came back again and it looked like the picture. How do I fix??? Please help!

What kind of hardware? Is it a screen problem because I did a command and the white went away. But it came back so i’m not sure. What do I need to fix?

I would book an appointment at your local Apple store, it could be anything from needing a screen replacement to a loose screen connector.

As others have mentioned this is a hardware issue and not a software issue sadly.

What is your budget for a quality repair? I wouldn't put too much money into a 7 year old Mac. If this happened to me and the repair was $300+, I would buy a new M1 Mac and sell the damaged one for whatever you could get or it.

I would take it into Apple, they will tell you what they need to do and the cost. Might be as simple as a loose cable.

I was thinking about getting a new one. Sadly my budget is probably not over $200 for a repair and I have a chrome book i can use for now so i’m just going to wait. But I will try to see if it is a loose connector.

A quote from Apple would be free, provided your local store is open. A lot of times they send off out of warranty Macs to their depot and they will fix everything that is wrong with it for a flat fee. When I did that several years ago, it was $325.00

Can we plug that macbook into a display or hdmi tv?
i would take everything apart and look at the logic board for cracks or defects.
you might have a lose connection somewhere.
my macbook airs have broken speaker connectors and other logic board snafus but they both work very good. These are brittle but tough notebooks!

Yes it does plug into HDMI and it works perfectly. It's just the display. I just got done taking the backplate off and snug in the display cable. Did nothing. I don't know what to do now.

Take it into Apple, and get a free repair estimate, as suggested by @Apple_Robert. At least you will then know the repair cost and what is wrong with it. With that information you can make an informed decision. Choices are :

Repair your existing laptop ( however not sure it will be worth it for a machine that old)
Buy a replacement.
Buy a external monitor and use it as a desktop.

So I have an external monitor that works with it that I have been using since it broke. I think I'm going to bring it to Apple. One of the only reasons I still really hang on to this 8 year old machine is because I still have some songs I recorded on Garageband that I need to publish to Spotify and Apple Music and stuff.

I have another laptop I can use for now. But thanks for all of the help. I was so confused at first lol.

I'm afraid your options are not good. Looks like:
Option 1 -- pay for a repair. This will be expensive and not advisable on a MBP that is now approaching 8 years old. Apple will probably refuse to do it (too old, they'll tell you).
Option 2 -- start looking for a replacement.

As mentioned above, you can use an external display for now if it works properly.
You might consider doing this until the new MBP 14" model gets introduced, probably July-October this year.

the logic board around there must have suffered some damage .
fisherrman is correct, but keep your macbook air and use that for older programs.
my spare macbook air battery swelled overnite, but luckily i only had 3 screws in the bottom plate.
i use that for a 1999 scanner and just for mountain lion but might get an M1 this year
