Help - Mail freezing / hanging for 3-4 minutes

Help,

two days ago mail just started hanging / freezing when ever I try to reply or create a new mail. I checked Activity Monitor and saw it stop responding about 10 seconds after the spinning beachball appeared. It chews few or no resources for most of the time in this phase. But leaving it alone one time it actually opened. I have repeated this several times.

I have tried reparing permission, done a complete restart, played with my mail settings...

Can anyone help?

Tried rebuilding mailboxes? Especially the Drafts box. New emails are created there, perhaps it can't create them because of corruption.

Ok, tried that...Thanks but it doesn't seem to have helped this problem.

I also tried unticking keep copy on server of draft and deleted email for the .Mac account which I now suspect is perhaps the culprit...

Any other ideas?

The issue can be resolved by trashing the com.apple.security.plist that sits in your User > Library > Preferences.

For anyone else searching here is the solution that John Dougherty posted

"UPDATE: The culprit on my computer is the 'com.apple.security.plist' preference file. (username>Library>Preferences>com.apple.security.plist)

Send the file to the trash. Log out, then log back in. This fixed it for me.

I don't have the file:
username>Library>Preferences>com.apple.security.plist
on my computer. So this solution doesn't work for me. I've read other places to disable .mac then mail app will work with other servers. But I only use .mac for my email. At this rate, when I'm up to renew in October, I'm going to say no to apple and find another email service. I want to like .mac, but Apple has messed up the mail app with .mac.

sorry to bring this back up, but my mail freezes upon opening it... it won't load anything... all i get is the beach ball so i can't do anything... any ideas....
