So here is the run down. I need a new phone, i was going to buy a Nexus 4 but my dad doesn't think its such a good idea due to me having to buy it online - he doesn't want me to go through all the crap over the phone when something goes wrong. My budget is around $300 to $400 but i would like to spend as little as i possibly can - it also needs to be unlocked and found in a retail store. At the moment ive found only two possible phones - the HTC Windows Phone 8s or the iPhone 4 (Which is a fair bit more). I just brought my own Macbook Pro (im 15) so money is a little tight on my behave at the moment - all i will use my phone for will be calling (every now and then), sometimes messaging and very rarely web surfing - its basically just a phone if i need to call my parents or family - i do most of my web browsing at home on my Macbook anyway. Is there any other phones anybody can recommend me? Thanks.

Wait until the GS4 comes out and get a used GS3. You have stores in the US which sell used goods right? I'm sure you do. In the UK we have CeX and they let you use the phone before you buy and give you a 12 month warranty on everything. Best of both worlds :D

Look at the Note 4 or the S3. if you can wait for the S4 that will be good but you may see better deals for the S3 especially after the S4 is announced.

As for the Nexus, google is much maligned about its support most of it deserved - at least early on. I owned a Nexus One back in the day and needed to contact support and to be honest, my experience wasn't bad. I'd say the fear of online support in this day and age is largely a non issue though its still nice to walk into your local carrier store for help

Agreed, Google's customer support is very good. I got my Nexus 7 from the Play Store to make sure I could go through Google rather than Asus should something go wrong, not had to do that though, it's been flawless so far... *touch wood*

But if you really want to get something awesome at your price range your best bet is to go to a store that sells used electronics and get the S3 after the S4 is out like I said. The S3 is (IMHO) a better phone than the N4 anyway, but then it depends on what you want from it.

Personally I am far more comfortable buying expensive used goods like high end smartphones in a store that gives me a warranty rather than trying my luck on eBay, too many eBay phones have broken and left me out of pocket for me to trust it these days. So if you want to take my advice regarding the S3, go to whatever the US equivalent to CeX is.

You either go to a nearest store and ask for help saying that you do want to get a good phone but for a good price, or you can forget about the price for a second and focus on choosing a phone on your own. Dozens of webs are waiting for you bro :D how about checking comperio ? they have some nice phones to compare and i tell you that - people lie, numbers don't
