Looking to upgrade to at least a late 2013 iMac 27" with either High Sierra or Mojave installed. I want to stay in the $500-550 range for a refurbished or good used unit. I just daily surf and download music and starting to get into photography so am I heading in the right direction? Thanks

I mean, you get what you pay for. For 5 years I used a 27" 2010 imac and made roughly 400k in that time on it but I wouldn't say it's ideal today. Mainly because the progams like lightroom and photoshop NOW are so much heavier than they were half a decade or more ago. Running cs6? You'll do swell. Running the current version of CC? It'll be slower.

That being said, as with all things in photography, they are just tools in the hands of the artist. A 2000 dollar computer won't make you a better photographer. It'll make you be able to edit and export stuff faster and a retina screen will help you tell which images are in focus easier, but otherwise really anything you find will work. I'd suggest facebook marketplace or someone that offers refurbs with some level of warranty. Macs last a LONG time but hey you still wana be careful, especially with a shoestring budget.
