help me choose refurb 2.16mbp or SR MBP?

ok so cost is an issue for me and i'd like to save as much money as possible but I'm not getting a regular mb b/c I do vid editing and a pro is just nicer for me. I like the new SR mbp but they are pricey. my question is is the extra almost 300 necessary? are there significant differences? i'd like to use any extra cash buying fce, a speckz case, and a possible jampack for garageband

i'd join adc but I need the computer asap and the new ones are taking awhile to ship

Well, you'll get more bang for your buck with the SR MacBook Pro and I would suggest that over the older MacBook Pro. Although if money is tight, the older MacBook Pro is still a nice machine.

For the extra $300, you're better off with the new one. It has an extra GB of RAM, better video card, the LED screen is fantastic.

Going against the grain ...

So ... I'm going to go against the grain and say to go for the refurb. Often when apple updates their line the refurbs are new machines in the box and they are clearing out old inventory. The older machines are nearly the same in capability, especially if you are not a gamer. The newer machines would encode video slightly faster, however if you are the type that tells iDVD to start it's thing and go to bed, in the morning you will notice no difference.

So for almost the exact machine at a cheaper price, I vote for the refurb. It's a great machine!

aww....I was all set to get the SR MBP until you said that...lol. Now, I'm not sure what to do. I'm such a price conscious person and my husband isnt so much-he's more about get the best possible.

Perhaps I should do a poll. I never thought about the refurbs being the new ones that they're getting rid of.

Anyway, I went to my local apple store and they are out of the 2.2 matte SR MBP. I guess I could get the new MBP and an ipod and sell it to offset some of the costs....I know macs are nice and new, but this seems like quite the investment...i just hope that this lasts me at LEAST 3 years

LOL! Sorry, didn't mean to totally make you decision harder! Personally the value of the refurb is great! If you go to sell the refurb a little down the road your not going to lose as much as the new one ... it's kinda like a car, it loses a lot of value right off the lot. For what it's worth I'm a little bias, I have a 2.16 MBP, it's great and I have zero complants. I bought it new, so if you go that route, your $300 up on me!

My only thought is go for the matte screen either way you go. I originally got the glossy and took it back. For the MacBooks glossy is fine, but on the Pro the larger screen the glare is very distracting unless you are someone who never moves your laptop around and have a controlled lighting environment. But if you go to the coffee shop a lot the matte is the way to go if you don't want to worry about where you are sitting.
