Hey Guys,

I am currently working on a new business venture. It is a small Luxury Consulting firm based out of NYC. I am currently designing the web site and getting my business cards made and what not. However there is one thing missing. I think I need a logo. I am not a photoshop whizz so I was wondering if one of you guys could possibly help me out by designing a very simple yet elegant logo for me. I would not be able to pay you since I'm basically a broke college student but you could use me as a reference and I could add a link on my website to your online portfolio or something like that. I know there has been a lot of posts on this particular forum about designers getting shafted, working for free and what not, and I dont want to come across as cheap, but no point in lying either right haha ;) I simply dont have the funds. Anyway if anyone could help me out, with either the design, some ideas, or even just point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thing you should know:

Company Name: Opulent Living or The Iossa Group
Preferred back colors: Black on grey or grey on black but I am open
Field: Luxury Consulting/PR/Branding

Just a very simple logo, sleek, elegant and minimalist. . .

Thank you so much for reading,

Edit:
On a more helpful note:
(I'll give you the same advice I gave the couple with the non-profit)

You could contact a local University that has a Graphics Department.
In college, it wasn't unusual for local businesses to approach the head of our department to see if something that might be needed by the business owner would mesh with the curriculum of the class.
We did a whole business identity in one of my senior classes.

The winning group wasn't paid for their time, but instead got ipods.
The rest of the class received ipod shuffles for the work they did as well.
...and were offered internships with the company that counted as course hours.

or if you truly haven't budgeted for this, and need an up-and-coming artist...you could offer something of value as "trade" (like maybe Your services in exchange), or tickets to a concert or football game...something of value. (you get the idea)
This would build a business relationship, which is never a bad thing.

Good Luck!

I think you should rephrase your request a bit, this isn't going to end well with some of the people on this forum. Just letting you know

I actually just saw the above video haha. . . I will rephrase it now. . . Thanks for pointing it out

if you're serious about your company you need to hire somebody. period.

I will definitely look into that, as I said I need some more capital before that can happen. I have no idea about design and I've been on MR for year so I figured what better place to ask how this works than the MR design and graphics forum.

We really need to get a no FREE work for business put into the rules of the site, actually I thought there was a rule about this. We will quite happily help refine your ideas but we don't like to do your work for free. Theres also NO!SPEC which alot of the full time designers follow too

Sorry if I come across as harsh or arrogant (I'm not I just like to have food and water) but would you offer your consultation services for free to a new company just because they haven't got the funds, you do offer the service to pay your bills after all don't you?

To the OP you do realise that you are basically asking for the most expensive part of a branding (not cheap in itself) to be produced for FREE, actually being that you are going into a consulting I would surmise that you do already know this hence the reason you are asking for it be done for free on a forum.

Seriously any new business is advised to budget money towards branding and advertising before starting up, its basic business knowledge.

If you want suggestions, first decide on your name then pick a nice elegant and minimalist font (comic sans is highly recommended :D) and then go for a gloss black on a matt black/charcoal.

Actually there is a rule. It's no solicitation of work, although admins don't really enforce it, unless people Report the post.

But do you give away your products for free? If you want something, you need to pay for it.

I'm not a Graphic Designer, I've just got some free time :)
It's pretty terrible, I know.
If you, by any chance, actually like it, want it bigger/altered just ask. Just thought I could help.
