Help me decide

I recently lost my iPhone 4s. I own an ipad mini an an iMac (which might help you in giving me an advice later).

I am looking forward to getting a new phone asap since I have no phone right now. I am deciding between the HTC One and the iPhone 5 (which will be getting iOS 7).

Comparing both, which do you think will be good? Stay or change? I am so conflicted right now quite honestly.

You need to go into a store and play around with each device. The iPhone 5 wont be a massive change from your 4S.

Likewise if you are deciding on an iPhone would it not be more advisable to wait possibly a couple of months and see what the 5S brings to the table, especially if your going to be stuck with whatever you decide for the next 24 months.

There is no right or wrong solution, but likewise we can't tell you what is a better fit for you, only you can do that.

If your changing for the sake of changing, give yourself more time and actually look at the devices in a store as well as research online and look at some youtube videos. That way you can make an educated decision yourself, alternatively just look at the other iPhone 5 / HTC threads we have here as much as what can be said, has been said in those threads.

Well long term Apple tends to support their hardware with software updates much longer than Android hardware is supported and with iOS you get that update as soon as its released. Unless ou go for the google edition of the one you are at the mercy of HTC and worse still your carrier to push out the update. If our with AT&T that could be a protracted wait.

The iPhone 5 likely has a higher resell value too.

If you want continued longevity in the software support area, go with the iPhone OR and Nexus device. Google will support Nexus devices for a long time. Now, if customizing appeals to you, ANY Android phone would be great. I have a 21 month old HTC Rezound that hasn't had the stock ROM on it for probably 17 months. Just about any Android phone can be heavily customized without changing the ROM, but if you do happen to see one you like, you just unlock the bootloader, load the new ROM and you have a new phone (software wise anyway).

The Apple ecosystem is going to keep you locked into a user interface that you can't change. If you're OK with that, then choose the iPhone if you like its interface. You might be able to jailbreak your phone to customize, but you shouldn't have to go do such an extreme to do so.

The iPhone will definitely retain resale value, no question about it.
