Help me delete my data

Hey.

Can you guys give me some guidance on deleting my data from my MacBook. Running 10.14.16. It took a lot of damage in an accident. The insurance company want to collect it to attempt a repair before offering a replacement. The damage is quite extensive and I don’t expect to get it back. I can access it with an external keyboard and mouse and have taken a time machine backup. What steps should I take to security delete my data before passing it onto the insurers?

Thanks every one. And yes fortunately so. Our ceiling collapsed but no one was in the room at the time.
