Hey.

Can you guys give me some guidance on deleting my data from my MacBook. Running 10.14.16. It took a lot of damage in an accident. The insurance company want to collect it to attempt a repair before offering a replacement. The damage is quite extensive and I don’t expect to get it back. I can access it with an external keyboard and mouse and have taken a time machine backup. What steps should I take to security delete my data before passing it onto the insurers?

Thanks in advance,
B

If this is a newer Intel Macbook with the T2 chip or an M1 Macbook. Follow these steps.

If this is an older Intel Macbook without T2 but has a SSD. Follow these steps.

If it has a HDD. Use secure erase.
