Help me design a wispy cloud logo?

can someone please help me out with creating a logo that looks like a wispy cloud, ive tried countless times but my end result is rather disappointing, render/clouds isn't cutting it either.

it has to look spot on and natural.

Let's talk about this for a moment. Logos need to have impact, both visually and symbolically. A wispy cloud doesn't seem to have either of these qualities.

What are you trying to say with your wispy cloud? Is there perhaps a better way to convey what you're hoping to convey?

I am really sick of people expecting free work, what you are asking maybe a 20 minutes hour job (tops) due to the fact I work in Weather Graphic but relying on $10K of equipment, $45K HECS Debt for a university degree and over 10 years worth of industry experience...

Asking for someone to working without reparation of some sort is completely unreasonable and devalues what many designers work for (and that is money).

What most designers don't mind is pointing people in the right direction, critiquing or giving them references to work from, not actually doing it because you do not have the skill level or can't be bothered doing the work yourself.

haha Mr ezekielrage_99, real funny, you are a TWIT, i wasnt asking for free design, ive done my 10 years plus pal, i was just simply asking for maybe a direction with technique as its something i would like to master, basically i tried a few tutorials, but nothing was cutting, i needed something special, thats why i asked the forum, because i would expect to find descent helpful designers trying help out a fellow designer, thats what design is all about, sharing your knowledge, not being a tight arse like yourself.

to citizenzen, i agree with your comments and this is why i having trouble with my design, the logo is for a music festival and the client wanted a specific concept where the logo was floating in the sky as clouds, but because of the shape of the logo it had to look perfect.

please have a look at my latest result, which is looking better, but maybe it could be perfected!

I can see why clouds would be tough.

Here's an alternative idea.

What about a flock of birds flying in the shape of the logo?

You can use the exact same image. Just with birds instead of clouds as the logo.

If photographers behaved how some of you guys do, I would quit every single forum...

But in crankypant's defense, it is helpful to include an image/example in the Original Post so we actually know that you are not simply "Trying to get free work done".

OP: I would go with citenzens idea of the birds, otherwise I have found that the only good way to "Create" clouds (besides excellent freehand draw/paint skills) is to clone existing clouds and use a combination of brushes and layers to blend them. into the shape you want.

Again I refer to your initial post, no where did you actually show what you've done the "general" perception was I can't do it so can someone else? The

sounds more like a design brief rather than an actual critique or a request for a "push" in the right direction.

But you should have looked for Photoshop brushes then use the clone tool.... I do apologies if I came of harsh, but I am no a fan of spec work or using the forum as an avenue of "cheap" work.

@MattSepeta Though I understand where you're coming from the examples I've seen in the Photography section of the forum generally always have an image for critique and feedback and more often than not it's not of a commercial nature. The issue always being is that the "helpful designer" out there should also do to work for them, that is my issue. Saying that "I've failed to do what I was intending to design" showing no example from the initial design stage tends to lead me to certain conclusions considering the newbie accounts popping up lately requesting work.

Why I feel compelled is I have been following similar threads like this and it seems you appear in every one with a similar response. As if you're looking out for such threads.

The OP never asked for a professional for free help. He didn't ask for someone with huge investments in software, equipment and education to give him a helping hand. Yet you respond as if he directly asked you for help.

What if he wanted someone who had some knowledge and experience for some advice. Someone who's good at what they do but do it as a hobby. I'm sure there are many of us that are willing to help people and I sincerely hope it's not wishful thinking on my part. I also cannot believe that you got to where you currently are without a helping hand or freebie at some point of your life. I know I have learned most of what I do from asking people at IRC and Usenet and now regular forums and I'm grateful for their help and wish to return the favor to others who need it.

I understand and completely respect where you're coming from though I hope you can respect my opinion on this as well. If there's nothing posted from the initial thread designwise then it's very hard to see it as anything but "can you do it for me?" question, there in lies the issue I have.

It not that I hunt down certain threads I mostly visit the design and gaming parts of the forum...

I have commented on many threads where there has been advice asked, with samples or the work added, but lately there seems to be a case of "soliciting free work" through newbies signing up. I can address the question when artwork (or an attempt is made), I can add relevant links, point them to a good tutorial, point them to a good resource, etc.. but not from what I would consider to be a "speciously interpreted" question. I have even helped out people via critique via PM outside threads.

Consider this, without any artwork attached there it could be considered as one thing from a newbie considering how many of these threads have popped up in recent times...

i really appreciate all aspects of everyones comments, i do apologise also, i was in a hurry and should have conveyed my request a little clearer as well as posted an image of exactly what i meant!

For the record this is what I use for critiquing artwork...


For feedback I generally use Logopond for concepts, generally if you post artwork you will get feedback.

Clientwise I've gotten most of my clients onto redmark, it's useful for committee based design... Also you can take personalities out of engineering the meetings and you can use it to pick up clients. Whatever forums you use it is hard to find targeted feedbacks.

While ideas generation Smashing Magazine and Abduzeebo are good starting points

I just wanted to chime in on Render Clouds...its not really good for rendering clouds but its great for texture artists and 3D modelers I use it all the time to break up patterns.
