Help me ID a game

A guy was playing a game on a mac. It looked like a First Person Shooter, he was traveling around, and would find mushrooms and other things and then tried to make potions (failing most of the time). What was it?

That's like saying... I was walking along a road and there were trees and fields of grass, where was I?

but in all seriousness... there are dozens of games out there that are like this. perhaps some more clues? was it a new game? an old game? a new mac? an old mac?

Sounds like Morrowind to me (Oblivion and Skyrim got rid of the lousy skill failures).

But yeah, that could be a lot of things. What did the game look like, visually? Morrowind isn't a new game, but definitely more advanced graphics than Minecraft.

How can you compare Morrowind to Minecraft. Of coarse Morrowind will have better graphics than Minecraft. Minecraft is Minecraft it is meant to look like it looks, absolutely nothing to do with old V new or new V old.
