Okay, so heres some questions to help me decide that I need anserwed, first let me explain my situation. I am going into college this fall, and love how small the macbook is, and what I would do is get the macbook, with the apple 23" HD monitor, or just the MBP:

so heres my questions

1. Will apeture, photoshop, dreamweaver, flash, and other such applications run GOOD on the macbook? (minimal lag & such)
2. Will the macbook "project" onto the 23" monitor good, or will it be distorted in some way?

Help me guys, i dont know what to do :(

Aperture will not run well (if at all) on the MacBook. Photoshop still isn't universal yet, so it would have to run under Rosetta, slowing it down significantly (but still usable for the novice). For the programs you listed, you really should have a MacBook Pro.

The 23" monitor would be fine on the MacBook.

I don't think Aperture would run well (it's "run well" not "run good" something is good but you do something well) if it runs at all, and Photoshop will run in Rosetta's emulated environment and as such would be slow-ish but still usable if you're not making a living from it.

From the specs listed on Apple's website it shows clearly that the MacBook supports the 23" Cinema Display - there would be no "distortion" or anything, it will connect and run it well.

Aperture would run very well on a MacBook Pro and Photoshop may be a bit quicker too possibly due to the dedicated graphics card but I'm no expert on how Photoshop relies on a video card.

ok so say PSCS3 comes out, and I dont need rosetta, would it run just as fast as it would on a MBP and in the mean time I could just use macromedia Fireworks?

Basically what I need is a computer capable of minor "hobby" photo editing, web design, & graphic design. I dont really plan on doing any hardcore professional work, as well as being easy to carry and take out during class, so thats why I want to lean toward the macbook with 23" but I just want to verify these program will run WELL enough for my needs ;)

You can still use Photoshop on it, it just won't be as fast as a PPC until a Universal binary's out.

Fireworks isn't universal, either. ;)

Just use photoshop - you'll be fine.

And about Aperture - Aperture like.. NEEDS a good graphics card, since the stats of this card is proven not to be much behind the AGP ATi 9700 card, and I would just say.. meh - try it out if you want to? I don't think it'd be unbearably slow, just.. not super fast. :)

i am using an ibook g4 and i have pscs i have never had anythin i could call a real lag unless i was working with huge amounts of text for one reason or the other, i would figure that it should run fine on the new mb and mbps

haha damn...ok I guess I will stick w/ photoshop. So the macbook will basically handle the apps I use fine once a binary one is out? I think apeture is a little more than what I would need to use. Photoshop handles my raws just fine so I really dont think id need to switch over anyways. So the macbook will run them fine correct, like 1 year down the road the macbook isnt gonna just like go out on me from running photoshop & dreamweaver. Im sorry im being kind of annoying but I just want to make sure im making the right decision w/ the macbook & 23"

Cool, i usually dont work with alot of text in ps, thx for the input

To be honest, I think the MBP would be a better bet (unless you really need the 23" screen). All of the programs you mentioned are "pro" apps and will run best on a MacBook "Pro." ;)

my ex boyfriend actually took my blackbook out for a test drive running aperture a week ago...it's not shabby, but the extra ram will help a lot. in all honesty, if you must rely on aperture/photoshop/... get a MacBook Pro.
The macbook will run all those and power a 23" display, but that's it. And the video card is clearly not enough for aperture (iirc you even get a message saying so), but it will run.

The MacBook doesn't have have a high enough resolution (has 1280x800, needs AT LEAST 12080*856) anyways.... did you really think you could run that beast on intergrated graphics? (not the threader, the rest of you ppl)

Even on 2GB ram in a macbook, aperture will run slower than you want. A macbook can run it, but if you're going to be using aperture a lot, I wouldn't get a macbook. With so many pro applications, the "pro" machine is best- it will handle them a lot better.
