Hey guys,

Going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro in the next day or two, just wandering what would be best. I'm a CS major, so I'll be using it a lot. I'm inclined to do the 17" and get all the bells and whistles, my reasoning being it's not going to be outdated as quickly. Does that make sense, or should I stick with the 15? Is the 17 going to be really big to carry around to class and such?

Also, what would you guys reccommend screen-wise - are there any benefits to the glossier one, which should I get?

Finally, is it worth it to get the 7200 RM 100gb instead of the 5400RPM 120gb? I would be willing to give up 20gb if the speed increase is noticible.

Thanks guys!

Dan

The speed difference between the 7200 and 5400 should be around 3MB/s.

You can always get the 15, which is easier to carry around and get an external LCD if you want space at your desk.

Of course the MacBook 13 is going to be even more durable an able to take some abuse, and even easier to take to class, swapping a GPU for ability to absorb punishment.

It just depends on what else you will carry in your bag. It isnt big to carry and im a lil asian, 5'6".

Thats a personal taste thing and you should go to the apple store on that one.

For your major, you won't see the speed difference, I think. Its only good for moving huge files. I got the 7200 RPM for show off factor.

17" Actually only measures another centimetre or so on each side of the 15"... That said it does 'feel' leaps and bounds bigger... I couldn't quite justify a 17", only because i've just come from a 12" and 15" seems huuuge.

I have a glossy screen 15" MBP, and I'm loving it. So I say go with the glossy screen, but you should go to a computer store and check them out for yourself.
