help me restore iphone to factory condition please

hi all,

first of all, I'd appreciate it a lot if you guys don't respond with comments along the lines of "you're screwed because you hacked it" or "you don't deserve service, apple doesn't owe you anything." I'm just here for help.

my phone continually behaves as if the earphones are connected, even when they're not. I tried to clean the earphone jack with a q-tip and windex, as suggested from a site (don't remember where). it worked for a while but the problem returned.

now I'd like to restore it to original factory state for servicing but I've been away from the hacking scene since last october and all of these new programs pwnage or liberty, etc. are confusing me to say the least. I currently have 1.1.1. will you guys please kindly tell me the best method and best program for virginizing?

Why not just use Itunes?

All you would have to do is put it in restore mode and then get Itunes to update it.

Did you unlock your phone?

If all you did was jailbreak, then just restore the phone in iTunes to 1.1.4 and take it to Apple. I jailbroke my first phone, then restore and sent it to Apple. Then I jailbroke the loaner phone they sent me, restored and sent back, then jailbroke my second phone, restored and sent back, jailbroke my second loaner, restored and sent back, and yeah, they don't know or care.

Just restore with iTunes, that's all you have to do unless you unlocked your phone methinks.

Even if you unlocked on 1.1.1 it will relock your phone when you restore to 1.1.4.

So JUST restore to 1.1.4 activate as normal with iTunes and DO NOT RESTORE from your backup or it will put your 3rd party application settings back.

If you do that then it will be like new!

are you sure upgrading to 1.1.4 with itunes will relock the baseband? and won't upgrading to 1.1.4 brink my iphone? I thought bricking occurs often because people thoughtlessly upgrade their phones without restoring the baseband to factory state (I remember this happening a lot before)?

and another question, apple will ask me for my at&t phone number when I ask for service yes?

UPGRADING through iTunes will brick the phone. RESTORING through iTunes will put the phone back to factory settings (1.1.4).

So RESTORE, don't UPGRADE!!

The "bricking" your talking about isn't even serious.

Your referring to an issue when going from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 caused by AnySIM in its original guise.

It created an issue which meant that going to 1.1.1 would mess up the baseband.

But the DevTeam(s) learnt from the error and every version of AnySIM since then does not cause any issues.

Even so it seems that Apple changed the way the baseband is updated so that from 1.1.2 it no longer mattered even if you used AnySIM on 1.0.2.

The point im trying to make is that you can't brick your phone from updating or restoring to 1.1.4 as it simply relocks the phone.

"bricking" was also used as a term to suggest you could not use the phone in anyway because it couldn't be hacked - we all know that 1.1.4 can be hacked by several different methods so it is NOT an issue.

And that guy is wrong - it doesn't matter if you update or restore it won't brick your phone BUT updating WON'T delete the 3rd party application settings from the phone - ONLY restoring will do that so he is correct in saying that only restoring will get it to OTB state!

Just don't restore from a back-up IF you previously jailbreaked the phone as it may mess up settings and need another restore to fix.
