Okay, so I have a few concerns that I need to clear out before deciding whether or not to grab the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. I'm hoping you guys could clarify them for me.

1- the 1 T.B storage option is too expensive for me, so I was thinking of getting the basic 64 G.B, but since the USB-C doesn't allow External hard drive usage, I found these Wireless Hard drives such as WD Passport that go up to 2 T.B and will be far cheaper than getting the built in 1 T.B iPad, but I've never used a wireless hard drive before, so my concerns are; will I be able to work through files/watch movies/ edit videos without the need to import to my iPad? Since it will be only 64 G.B which may limit me on the long term.

2- I'm about to graduate med school soon so I thought the iPad could help me a lot for when I want to study on the go, learning to draw, and edit videos as a hobby, and of course watch Netflix and whatnot. I want to know exactly what are the limitations I could face in terms of my activities.

Thank you so much in advance, and I hope you all have a great day.

iOS devices need to have the files saved internally. In the case of wireless hard drives, you may be able to have a file opened by an app but that app will want to save to the internal storage.

Your needs sound rather as if the entry level iPad could take care of those though, so I’d have a long look at that model.

Yeah, as mentioned above, to actually work with a file, or edit video. You’ll have to transfer it to the internal storage.

For watching films, a lot of them let you stream the videos from the hard drive without having to transfer it.

I’ve been using a Kingston MobileLite for a few years now. It is handy. Sure it means you have to transfer files back and forth between the iPad and Sad Card, or Hard Drive. But I’ve never found it a big problem.

Between that and cloud storage I’ve been able to keep my local storage needs quite low. My previous iPad Pro was 128GB. For the 2018 upgrade, I’ve actually only bought a 64GB one because I never even got close to that amount on the 128GB.

Get the 256gb version. It will be enough to store some movies and tv shows and data on it.

I use the Wireless Pro - I did get a bad one, will be returning it soon to get a new one. It won’t keep a charge, even in standy.

Yes you will end up downloading??? I am not finding the files that I used from the HDD, so maybe they don’t actually download....
